Travel: Flights to Edmonton

By far, the fastest and most comfortable way to get to Edmonton from outside Alberta is by flying. Most major airlines service Edmonton. General travel times to Edmonton are 45 minutes from Calgary, 1 1/2 hours from Vancouver, and 4 hours from Toronto. Edmonton's main Airport is the hub to Northern Canada. To Europe, Edmonton has service to London on Air Canada (starting October 2006). To the United States, Edmonton has scheduled departures to 10 United States airports: Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago.

Edmonton International Airport has seasonal charter service to/from: Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Hiroshima, London, Mexico City, Las Vegas, Laughlin, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Varadero, Cancun, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata.

• Edmonton International Airport, . Edmonton International is located south of Edmonton in Leduc County. It has two terminals, with a central hall that is the security point for all domestic and international traffic (excluding travel to the US, which uses the South Terminal). Transportation to and from the airport will need to be arranged as there is no public transportation available to the airport. There is an airport shuttle available at an affordable cost ($15 one way; $25 return). Taxi service is also available, but can be costly (around $40 to or from downtown as of 2006). The drive between Edmonton International airport and downtown is about half an hour, using the Queen Elizabeth Hwy 2. Allow extra time during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Car rental companies are located in the parkade directly across for the terminal for easy pick-up and returns.
